SCROLL DOWN TO VIEW SOME OF THE NEARBY ATTRACTIONS !
Our pedestrian village is only 3 mins stroll from Villa Rose and has shops, bars and restaurants overlooking the boating lake, golf course and hills of Provence. There is a small supermarket catering for everyday needs, a paper shop (tabac), wine shop, hairdresser and a number of other establishments. La Farigoule is the nearest bar/cafe/restaurant which also has some takeaways (including pizzas). Les Tilleuls next door is a slightly smarter restaurant while the golf club has excellent bar and restaurant facilities (open to everyone) where you can eat inside or on the terrace. Le Moulin de Vernegues has a good, ornate french restaurant for special occasions and is just about walking distance in the domaine.
There is a market in a nearby town or village every day, and vary from extremely chic in Lourmarin, 20 mins away, to very good value in nearby Salon de Provence, the nearest good sized town. Domaine de Pontroyal has a small colourful summer market on Thursday mornings. Nearby Pelisanne has a large lively market on Sunday, Cavaillon is also bustling and energetic on Monday. We have further market guides in Villa Rose.
The nearby restaurants cover the entire spectrum from a 3 minute stroll to our local "pub" La Farigoule, in the village, or the hilltop cafe Le Repaire (5 mins drive) where the old village once stood. The Michelin starred Moulin de Lourmarin is 20 mins drive. Much better value than the UK and infinitely more enjoyable. 3 course menus start from about 12 euro to around 95 euro in the most expensive! There are many other places in local villages and towns we recommend in our information pack in Villa Rose.
Within one hour drive there are a great variety of interesting places to visit. We list some we have enjoyed recently.
LES BAUX. Fascinating hilltop village with many shops, bars and restaurants and great history.
NIMES & ARLES. Two cities with Roman amphitheatres and more. Nimes has a great pedestrian shopping area to the north of the arena.
AVIGNON. One of the largest commercial (shopping centres) we have ever seen at Avignon North. You can also walk on the famous half-bridge or visit the Palais du Papes.
AIX. Famous university town with a great pedestrian shopping area to the north of the Cours Mirabeau.
CASSIS is a pretty Mediterranean town with a beach, harbour and many shops and restaurants. Boat trips to the Calanques (fiords) are popular.
There are many sports activities within walking distance, some are seasonal and may incur a charge at the reception centre in the village.
There are several swimming pools and one associated waterslide. There is a watersport lake, bicycle hire, floodlit tennis courts, horse riding and a small animal centre. Childrens clubs are available. Boules are often played in La Place de la Mairie. There are many scenic walking/jogging trails around the village. The spectacular golf course is described below.
The golf club is less than 5 mins walk from Villa Rose. It was designed and opened in 1991 by Seve Ballesteros. At around 7,000yds from the back tees it is not for the faint hearted, although the variety of tees allow the ladies to enjoy a considerably shorter course. It has spectacular view of the Luberon and is considered to be one of the top ten courses in France. The French Masters has been played here for the last few years in October, televised in 2007 for the first time. There is a fully equipped practice ground and a new clubhouse was opened in 2002.
There are several local vineyards which produce wine of various quality and complexity. Some are quite reasonable, but for the better southern Rhone wines, a visit to the picturesque villages of Vacqueras, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise or Chateauneuf du Pape will be well rewarded, both in the quality of wine, the views of the nearby countryside and some excellent restaurants.
